Our history

Hans Jordi, after completing his studies, and working in Berlin and Vienna for such architects as Peter Behrens, opened his own office in the economically difficult period of 1935.

Beat Jordi took over leadership of the office in 1970, after completing both his studies and a three year stint working for Marcel Breuer in New York and Paris.  One of his first projects as the new owner of the firm was the Baldegg Convent.  Designed by Marcel Breuer and Associates, Beat Jordi had worked on the project substantially since its inception, and took over the construction document and construction phases.  Over the past thirty years, the sisters at the Baldegg Convent have entrusted Jordi + Partner with all their building needs throughout Switzerland.

In 1998, the firm was converted into an incorporated entity, with the name of Jordi + Partner AG.

At the same time, Patrick Jordi joined the firm as a partner after having received his degree from the ETH Zurich, and a three year stretch at the architectural office of Livio Vacchini in Locarno.  From 1999 to 2001, he worked in New York City on various projects, and successfully completed the licensure exams for the US Architecture License in the state of New York.

Since the death of Beat Jordi in 2003, Patrick Jordi is the third generation of his family to lead the office.

Markus Grundmann, dipl. Architekt ETH/SIA, became a partner in 1975, after having worked for one year in the offices of Marcel Breuer in Paris.

Stefan Reinhard, dipl. Architekt FH/SIA, having worked in the architecture and engineering firm RFR, Paris with Peter Rice, started his professional life with the Jordi team in 1983.  Together with Markus Grundmann and Patrick Jordi, they form the management body of the firm.

Over the last two decades, Jordi + Partner AG has always employed between 20 and 25 employees, most of them for many years.  For this reason, the firm has an experienced and knowledgeable team that allowed them, in November 2001, to complete the ISO Certification process in only 1½ years.  This certification guarantees the client an excellent execution of their project from inception through completion.

Jordi + Partner AG has been able to realize many different types and sizes of projects for both private and institutional clients in Switzerland and abroad.  The firm uses the name Jordi Architekten AG for its foreign projects, and for several years has been maintaining a New York City presence.

Being active in all phases of architecture and design, Jordi + Partner has extensive experience in various building projects.  These include, but are not limited to, small renovations to large and complex new construction projects, renovations and alterations, and especially the creative integration of new volumes into an existing historical context.
